Frequently asked questions:

1. Is it easy to use?

Simply press the 'Lock' button on your key-fob and CentraLock will lock your home. To gain entry to your home press the 'Unlock' button on the key-fob to unlock your doors.

2. Is it a 'Burglar alarm' system?

Definitely not! It is far more than an alarm system. Alarm systems make no attempt to secure your home, they simply tell you about an event after someone has broken into your home. CentraLock is a Central Locking System which offers 'Active' security by locking your doors and windows and helping to keep intruders out of your home in the first place.

3. How secure is CentraLock?

Very! The radio system used by CentraLock offers very high levels of security providing over two billion different encryption keys.

4. What if my neighbor fits a similar system?

No problem! The 'Starter kit' includes the master unit that every system must have in order to work and this is programmed with a 'Unique System Key'. This code is highly secure and cannot be accessed or read from the device in any way, not even by us! This is then used as part of the radio link security encryption and guarantees that in no circumstances will it be possible for a unit to receive messages from any other unit anywhere else.

5. Can I get locked out?

As with any other security system or lock you must have the correct key to unlock the door or window. If you lose the key-fob you are 'locked out' in exactly the same way as if you had lost your conventional mechanical key. If any CentraLock unit should fail for whatever reason, even if the Master unit should fail, the rest of the system will still work to give you real peace of mind. The CentraLock central locking system is designed give you the peace of mind that everything is properly closed and locked.

6. What happens if there’s a fire?

Each bolt comes with a manual override key, this should be kept conveniently close to the CentraLock unit and it can be used to unlock the door or window from the inside in the event of an emergency.
**Coming soon** We have a new wireless smoke detection system which will link in to the CentraLock system and it will automatically unlock the doors and windows in the event of a fire.

7. How long will the batteries last?

Assuming you completely lock and un-lock your home about 10 times per day then key-fobs should have a battery life of around 5 years, doors and windows should have a battery life of around 18 months to 2 years. CentraLock gives you the option of opening the main door only, this operation requires far less power and as a result it can increase battery life still further.

8. What happens when my batteries go flat?

CentraLock will warn you a couple of months ahead of a battery run-down; this warning is given by a special signal when you enter your home; you then look at all of the units and any units which 'flash' their indicators or sound their 'beepers' require new batteries. Battery changing can be DIY if desired as it requires simply the removal and replacement of the battery.

9. What if I lose a key-fob?

You can 'block out' any lost or stolen key-fobs from your own main door, the process is quick, simple and requires no technical knowledge. Then you simply buy a replacement key-fob and by following the instructions you then add this to your system.

10. What if I want to add more locks?

Adding new units is a very simple process, all Cedardell CentraLock Central Locking systems can accept new locking units at any time, up to of 16 locks can be fitted onto a system. Simply fit the new locking unit and insert the battery, the system will automatically install your new unit securely.

11. What if I want to add another key-fob?

You can have up to 8 fobs on the system and you can add or remove them at any time by following the simple instructions.

12. Can I use two systems with the same key-fob?

Yes! You can link your key-fob to as many CentraLock systems as you like. The process is simple to follow and you can rest assured that no one can add a key-fob to your system without your permission! Once complete you can open any system to which your key-fob has been linked.

13. Can CentraLock secure my garage door?

Yes! Many garages have access to your home, you may have state of the art security and multiple locks on your other doors but in almost all cases the lock on your garage door was made for about 50p! Basically this is the most vulnerable door in your home and as a consequence fitting CentraLock units to the garage door will offer the greatest single security improvement possible.

14. Can I connect it to my 'Burglar alarm'?

Yes! Soon we will have an alarm panel interface available which will automatically allow you to set your alarm system when you lock your home and to unset your system when you return and use the key-fob to unlock your home.
